2. Digestive Health Food Test & Gut Barrier Function

This blood test includes testing for either 132 or 176 food intolerances and includes testing for candida, zonulin, LPS and occuldin.

  • Candida: we measure and use any candida overgrowth in the stomach/dysbiosis as a precursor to leaky gut occurrence
  • Zonulin: Is a marker of intestinal permeability, otherwise known as leaky gut. If a patient has elevated Zonulin levels, the normal regulation of the tight junctions is compromised. This Zonulin marker is unique to KBMO please follow the link for more information:
  • Occludin: is a marker of tight junction stabilization and optimal barrier function. Elevated occludin indicates that the tight junctions are breaking down.
  • LPS: Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) are a major structural component of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria. Elevated levels of antibody against LPS may be indicative of Leaky Gut Syndrome and other gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases.£315

3. GI Map (Gastrointestinal Assay)

The Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus (GI-MAP) was designed to assess a patient’s microbiome from a single stool sample, with particular attention to microbes that may be disturbing normal microbial balance and may contribute to perturbations in the gastrointestinal (GI) flora or illness. The panel is a comprehensive collection of microbial targets as well as immune and digestive markers. It screens for pathogenic bacteria, commensal bacteria, opportunistic pathogens, fungi, viruses, and parasites. It primarily uses multiplex, automated, DNA analysis to give integrative and functional medicine practitioners a better view into the gastrointestinal microbiome.

Suggestions for having the test may include these symptoms:£415

  • Digestive symptoms: Chronic diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, gas or abdominal pain.
  • Altered bowel habits: Ongoing changes in stool frequency, urgency or consistency.
  • Suspected gastrointestinal disorders: Evaluation in contexts such as irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease or coeliac disease.
  • Recurrent gastrointestinal symptoms: Exploration of potential bacterial contributors including Escherichia coli or Helicobacter pylori.

  • Fatigue or neurological symptoms: Brain fog, low energy or mood changes in complex clinical presentations.

GI Map Plus Zonulin

Altered gut barrier function: Assessment of intestinal permeability where disruption of gut lining integrity is suspected. Plus all of the above in GI MAP testing.£495

OAT (Organic Acid Testing)

The Organic Acids Test (OAT) provides an accurate metabolic snapshot of what is going on in the body. Besides offering the most complete and accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria, it also provides information on important neurotransmitters, nutritional markers, glutathione status, oxalate metabolism, and much more. The test includes 76 urinary metabolite markers that can be very useful for discovering underlying causes of chronic illness.

Patients and physicians report that treating yeast and bacterial abnormalities reduces fatigue, increases alertness and energy, improves sleep, normalizes bowel function, and reduces hyperactivity and abdominal pain.

  • Fatigue or low energy: Persistent tiredness, reduced stamina or feeling easily depleted.
  • Mood or cognitive changes: Low mood, irritability, anxiety, poor focus or memory issues.
  • Digestive discomfort: Bloating, gas, irregular bowel habits or a history of gut imbalance.
  • Recurrent yeast or fungal symptoms: Thrush, sugar cravings or signs suggestive of microbial overgrowth.

Comprehensive Stool Analysis & Parasitology

The Comprehensive Stool Analysis + Parasitology (CSAP) profile helps pinpoint the causes of gastrointestinal symptoms and chronic systemic conditions, and measures key markers of digestion, absorption and inflammation. It contains comprehensive bacteriology and yeast cultures to identify the presence of beneficial flora, imbalanced flora including Clostridium species, and dysbiotic flora, as well as the detection of infectious pathogens and parasites by PCR and other gold standard methods. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing to prescriptive and natural agents is also performed for appropriate cultured bacterial and fungal species at no additional charge. Parasitology testing can include one-, two- or three-day collection, based on practitioner preference.£450

Candida

Candida is yeast that occurs naturally in the body and is present in the intestinal tract from birth. Candida normally resides along with bacterial flora which co-exist and its growth is normally limited by the immune system or other balanced bacteria. Excess stress, use of antibiotics, oral contraceptives, allergies and viral infections may exacerbate the growth of yeast.

Candida overgrowth is the most common cause of systemic fungal infection and accounts for 80% of all major systemic fungal infections. Symptoms may be attributed to food sensitivity because the invasive fungi can increase rapidly in number and permeate the digestive tract. Diets high in simple carbohydrates have been found to increase rates of oral candidiasis.

Mild, chronic and poly-systemic candidiasis can be positively diagnosed by the determination of high serum levels of IgG, IgA and IgM antibodies against Candida antigens. Immune complexes are clusters of interlocking antigens and antibodies. Normally, immune complexes are rapidly removed from the bloodstream. Sometimes, however, they continue to circulate, and eventually become trapped in the tissues of the kidneys, the lungs, skin, joints, or blood vessels. There they set off reactions with complement that lead to inflammation and tissue damage.£190

Candida IgG food test with yeast and candida

This test has added Candida to the IgG Food Allergy Test. Candida problems are caused when the benign yeast form of Candida albicans mutates to its fungal form. Candida can take over sections of the intestinal wall causing numerous symptoms. As it grows out of balance it produces toxins that create holes in the intestinal lining, leading to leaky gut syndrome. After entering the blood, Candida albicans causes an inflammatory immune system response. A wide range of disorders have been linked to Candida including autism, multiple sclerosis, depression, and chronic fatigue. Use of antibiotics, oral contraceptives, chemotherapy, and anti-inflammatory steroids greatly increase susceptibility to Candida.£380

GI 360

The GI360 Profile identifies and characterises the abundance and diversity of more than 45 bacterial species, that the peer-reviewed research has shown to contribute to dysbiosis (imbalance of the normal composition of gut microbes) and other chronic disease states.

The Dysbiosis Index (DI) calculates the bacterial abundance and profile compared to a reference population with scores from 1 to 5. Values above 2 indicate a microbiota profile that differs from the normal gut microbiota, and is such classified as dysbiosis.

The presence of pathogenic viruses, bacteria, and parasites is detected by combining the newest technology with the most tested method of growth- based culture. If pathological microorganisms are detected ,the GI360 profile reports on all levels of bacterial susceptibilities that may be useful in eradicating the microorganisms using either natural of prescriptive treatments.

The GI360TM Profile also measures how effectively the GI-tract functions, and reports on digestion & absorption, inflammation, and overall intestinal health.

Indications

  • Gastrointestinal Symptoms, Inflammation, joint pain, mucosal barrier function, autoimmune disease, food sensitivities, chronic / acute diarrhoea, abdominal pain, IBS/IBD, bloody stool, fever and vomiting.£295
